This one is a big deal and it going to change how and why many of us play Legends of Aria.
We have engaged in a large expansion of our item economy, both in terms of crafting, lootability and most importantly, in the depth and power of our items. This includes entirely new weapons, armor, shields and mage weapons and features over a dozen new item properties. This is also marking the launch of our new Enchanting System, a system which allows all players to play a role in creating powerful and highly sought after items, chief amongst them, crafters.
Enchantment is powered by essences, each operating as one of a maximum of three dice rolls in your enchantment. Each essence has three qualities, each respectively offering larger dice roles. Any combination of essences may be placed in your enhancement, be it three identical essence types or three unique essences. Placing an essence in a slot will change the item’s name and potential properties on the adjacent information page, giving you live feedback on the potentialities of your enchantment.
Crafters will naturally form the backbone of our new Enchantment system, being granted exclusivity to key enchants which are now distributed as rewards for Crafting Orders (we still owe you a write up on this, we just needed to take the time to fix it first). Crafting Orders have received some serious love in facilitating this update, the write up is coming. We have however, not given exclusivity to the process of enchanting itself.
Creating powerful items with dice rolls is an exciting and rewarding activity, whether you’re simply adding swing speed to your basic longsword or you’ve hit the jackpot turning out that maxed Singing Katana of Vanquishing. The Enchanting table will be useable by all for a gold fee, allowing new players and master crafters alike an opportunity to increase their power. This is going to create some interesting market choices as crafters may choose to invest their essences in creating powerful pieces, or to sell the essences themselves to allow players to roll the dice, we leave those types of decisions to you.
Essences are distributed across craft disciplines. Metalsmiths can produce essences which enhance damage, accuracy and swing speed of weaponry or bashing/slashing/piercing protection for armor. Fabrication essences can improve evasion, magic protection and other properties beneficial to casters. Last but not least, Carpenters can expect essences which provide greater protective qualities to shields versus projectiles and spells, in addition to new and exciting enchantments to bows themselves.
Item properties are going to have far wider implications than crafting and Enchanting alone – this expansion affords us, for the first time, the ability to drop meaningful and diverse item drops, be it a common Pirate or Goblin sword or cursed artifacts from the Void. We have gone back to our current offering of unique items and allocated these with meaningful item properties which balance well with the crafted alternatives to ensure the prominence of crafted gear, but with the optional availability of dropped pieces. These changes really bring our world to life and makes large areas of our content more relevant, from the low end through to the Halls of the Catacombs.
We’re excited to unveil all of this to you in a few short weeks. Stay tuned for more incoing blog posts and be sure to join us for our Live Developer Q&A, next Friday at 1pm Eastern over on Twitch!
